English Walnut – Description – Uses – Examples of work
Walnut one of my favorite woods.
I thought I would write about each type of wood I have in my collection of English hardwoods to assist in the selection process when commissioning furniture and other items. Also including examples of work.
I have only included woods that I have sufficient quantities in stock to produce commissions from.
English Walnut – Varies in colour from dark chocolate-brown to lighter pale brown. Sapwood is white to brown. Can have good figuring such as pips and flame cut grain. Centre of branches and tree has a hole in center of growth rings. excellent wood for furniture, boards and turning. A fine finish can be obtained and good patina with wax polishing. Continue reading
